Letters from Readers

:) Karen

Thanks again. Yes, I am a registered psychologist in private practice. "All that you fight weakens you" seems to be a good philosophic base on which to help clients suffering from panic attacks. I have another appt. with my client tomorrow AM and will keep your advice and counsel in mind. Thanks again.

Karen, First of all, thank you for all the time you spend helping people with panic disorder. You must be very special to care about so many people. My name is Russ, and I, too, suffer from panic disorder. I live in the Cincinnati, Ohio area and I was wondering if you are aware of any support groups in my city. I have been unable to find one. If you are unaware of any, I would be interested in starting one. So, if you get similiar inquires from people in Cincinnati, can you pass my email address along to them? Maybe that way I find enough people to get one started.

Thank you,

Answer: I will be happy to post a notice at Suite 101 regarding a support group in Cinncinati. Also, I will check around and see what I can find there. You could try calling therapists in the area who specialize in panic disorder and asking them if they know of any support groups in your area.

Peace, Karen

Karen, I am a 41 year old male. I experience a serious sympathetic rush when I am involved with confrontation. I am embarrased by the nervousness in my voice and sometimes wonder if the other person can hear my heart pounding. My speech pattern is broken and my face flushes. I work in a professional field that involves frequent interaction with people and includes public speaking. The symptoms always subside with 5 - 10 minutes. I do not feel threatened or afraid of the person but I have been unable to overcome the nervousness. I hate this weakness. Please help.

Is there a non-prescription drug or herb that would help me with this problem? Would you classify this as a panic disorder?

Answer: Please keep in mind that I am not a doctor or a therapist, just a woman with Anxiety/Panic Disorder. I have had this disorder since 1989 and in that time, I have encountered scores of people with the disorder and I have spent years doing research on the disorder. Still, the best I can
