BounceOut: Out of This World Fun

Since the end of game comes when time runs out in a timed game, the game does not end when you run out of moves. Rather, all of the black balls are removed from the gameboard and the remaining balls cascade down to a new resting position. This usually results in a large number of matches and thus many bonus points. I quite like this decision - it adds an extra element of danger - finding the last possible match on the board can often be time consuming - and provides great rewards - lots of bonus points.

All Astraware games look good. BounceOut is bright and colorful, but I must admit the sheer number of colors and colored patterns gets to me. I actually prefer playing this game in greyscale. The many colors are represented as a single shape marker on white, light gray, and dark gray balls. This takes some getting used to, and you may have to play with your contrast wheel to be able to easily distinguish between the different shades, but I find in the heat of the game these patterns work better for me than the colors and colored patterns.

The game is also quite playable on a HandEra 330, although it's a little sluggish unless you play in center or upper left mode. Interestingly, center and upper left mode are the same for collapse - both actually are in the upper left 160x160 of the device.

Like most Astraware games, BounceOut has a global high score board. I always like that in a game since it gives me a sense of how I compare to the best of the best.

BounceOut is my current favorite of the Astraware crop of games. If you're a fan of their games, particularly of Bejeweled, I strongly recommend trying BounceOut. It's shareware and costs $14.95.
