Not-So-Free Screen Protectors Anyone? If you're like me, you like free stuff. Free stuff is good. If it's free stuff you'll use, even better. However, I really hate free stuff that isn't really free. I've shopped at a software site that older software titles for "free" then charges $7.50 per item for shipping. Just tell me the CDs cost $7.50 each without the gimmicks. That's still a good price for most of the software. I rarely go to that software reseller though, because seeing the word free plastered all over the site really bothers me. I had a similar reaction to the new site FreeScreenProtectors.com. A site offering discounted Palm accessories for a wide variety of models, they do not, alas, offer free screen protectors. But that's their url, and when you arrive at the site a nice popup ad offers you a coupon code to get your first set of CompanionLink screen protectors free (plus shipping and handling charges). And there's my big problem with the site. The screen protectors are not free. If I ordered a set, it would cost me $6.95 in shipping and handling charges. It doesn't cost the company that much to ship a set of screen protectors, so I'm not even getting them at cost, let alone free. Now I don't begrudge anyone an honest living and they have every right to want to make a profit when they sell product. However, do so honestly. Tell me up front that my free screen protectors will cost me $6.95. Or, if you want to go with the free gimmick, then include an honest to goodness free set of screen protectors (or even a single screen protector) with any paid order. The shipping costs there will be for whatever I buy and adding a small item to my package won't greatly increase the shipping costs. That rant out of the way, FreeScreenProtectors.com, run by Incipio, has a wide variety of very cheap PDA accessories. In addition to CompanionLink screen protectors sold for $5 (only the first set is "free"), they sell Silkyboard keyboard overlays, a wide variety of cases (both Incipio and others), and replacement stylii all at quite reasonable if not downright cheap prices. If you can get over the gimmicky nature of the site it's a good place to look for cheap accessories. Shipping costs $6.95 for the first item and $.50 per additional item within the US and $8.50 for the first item and $2.00 per additional item outside the US for basic USPS shipping. Priority and Express Mail options are also available at higher rates.
