any Word documents you added from the desktop appear in the list of docs with a W to their left. Documents created in WordSmith also have this icon, as do modified Doc files. Files created in any of these situations are identical and all become Word documents on the desktop. Tap on any of these files to open them, or create a new file using the New button at the bottom left side of the window. This brings you to document edit mode with the standard WordSmith toolbar at the bottom. The first button brings up a window with three tabs. The first tab, Align/Indent, lets you set either normal or hanging indentation in either inches or centimeters as well as set the justification. The second tab, Spacing, lets you set the spacing between lines in pixels, inches, or centimeters. It also lets you set single spacing, double spacing, or other spacing rules for returns. This is a nice if you really need to have a specific line spacing or if you feel certain lines are just a little bit too close. The third tab, Breaks, lets you determine how text interacts page breaks. You can set WordSmith to break before a specific line, to keep two lines together, or to keep a line with the next line. You can also set outline levels in this tab which only show up in the desktop Word document in Outline view. The ability to control where line breaks occur is extremely nice, especially since you cannot see the line breaks on the Palm. This more than any other single feature will help eliminate the need for further editing on the desktop in my opinion. Next to this first button is a button that lets you quickly chose an alignment setting (left, center, right, or justify). The next three buttons allow you to quickly toggle bold, italic, and underlined formatting. The final button shows a preview of the current font settings. Tapping on it opens the Font Selection window which allows you to change the font face and size of the text and set bold, underline, italic, superscript, subscript, and strikethrough styles. By default, you can use only Arial, Times New Roman, and Symbol fonts. As you sync additional documents from Word, any fonts they use are added to the list of available fonts for all documents. There is no way to add other fonts to your documents. Since
