my needs. The interface is similar to the memo interface. It consists mostly of a list of the Doc files and WordSmith files in the database. WordSmith files are denoted by a W symbol next to their names. There is a standard category selection box in the upper right and a New button on the lower left. There are two tabs at the top left - Memo and Doc. These tabs let you toggle between the two modes. There is also a filter box at the bottom that lets you jump to a specific memo by typing the first letter or two of its title. The amount of free space on the device is listed next to the filter box. The name filtering box is much faster in the Doc mode than it is in Memo mode. That could be because I only have 20 Doc files loaded whereas I have ~600 memos, but it was still an unexpected surprise. To open a specific Doc file, select it from the list. Alternately you can tap on the space to the left of the document (or on the W for Word documents) and select Edit (you can also beam, delete, duplicate, change the category, or via details set the document to read only from this menu - very nice). It took me a long time to figure out that this space did something, since there is no visual icon present for Doc files. In fact, one of my complaints was going to be that there is no way to set a file to read-only without opening it first. The file will open in Edit mode unless it is read-only. Tap on the Edit button to move to view mode. In this mode, there are three buttons in the toolbar. The first one lets you drag text up and down to advance or reverse the text. The second lets you tap the bottom half of the screen to advance and the top half to reverse. The third button is an autoscroll option that will scroll in either direction. The easy switch between these navigation modes is nice, and I like the scroll backwards feature even though I can only think of a few very limited situations where it would be useful. However, there are no other controls. You cannot adjust anything else without editing the file itself. There is no support for screen rotation at all, although
