Quick Launch

Most of the time it's no problem to exit an application, enter your launcher application, perhaps switch tabs or categories, and select the next application you want to use. But there are times when you want to go back and forth between two applications; switching to the launcher between these applications can become very tedious. There are three hacks available that allow you to quickly launch another application, bypassing the launcher application: RunWrite by DovCom allows you to assign single digit alphanumeric codes to specific applications on your Palm. Any of these applications can be launched by drawing the space stroke in the upper fifth of the alphabetic grafitti area followed by the character assigned to the desired application. RunWrite is a hack, and does require HackMaster. The character assignments are made within HackMaster. Tap on the + symbol next to RunWrite in the hacks list to launch a list of all currently loaded applications. Select any application from the list and enter the character you wish to assign it in the Launch Character field. Once all of the characters have been assigned hit the Done button. Your assignments have now been saved and the applications can be launched from any active application. RunWrite is shareware and costs $12. SwitchHack by Deskfree Computing allows you to easily switch between the last two active applications, bypassing the launcher. Simply stroke from the applications silkscreen button into the grafitti area to switch to the previous active application then stroke again to switch back. If one of the applications is the Address Book, SwitchHack remembers which entry you were looking at and returns to that entry. Also, SwitchHack automatically ignores launcher applications, so you can switch between the last two non-launcher applications even if you used the launcher in between. In addition to switching between the last two active applications, SwitchHack also allows you pop up a list of the last 10 applications used. Select any application from the list and it automatically relaunches. To view this list, simply stroke from the Menu silkscreen button to the Applications silkscreen button. SwitchHack a hack and requires HackMaster to run. It is shareware and costs $5. PhlegmHack by Mitch Blevins is very similar to SwitchHack. It also allows you to switch between the last two applications used by stroking from the Applications silkscreen button to the grafitti area and launches a list of the most recent applications when you stroke from the Menu silkscreen button to the Applications silkscreen button. However, PhlegmHack does not maintain a sense of your state within an application, so switching to the AddressBook will bring you back to the main screen regardless of what you were looking at when you left.
