Whether you are a consultant billing your clients for mileage, someone traveling for pleasure who wants to track how far you go, or just curious about the kind of mileage your car is getting, your Palm can track the details of your driving experiences.
There are several programs available to track mileage ranging from simple programs that track your miles per gallon to applications that track every detail of how the miles were accumulated. Some of the applications even track maintenance costs and car payments if your goal is to track your total automobile expenses. This article will examine the following car tracking applications: Highway Manager by Zorglub Software is a fairly simple mileage calculator. Every time you get gas enter the number of miles or kilometers traveled since the last time you got gas, the number of gallons or liters you bought, and the price you paid. Highway Manager will automatically calculate the distance travelled per unit of gas, the cost per 100 units of distance, and a few other statistics to track. It allows you to chose the unit of currency, instantly switch between English and metric units, track multiple cars, and export reports on each vehicle. Highway Manager is shareware and costs $12.95. Trip by HandsHigh Software is a simple trip tracker designed for the frequent business traveler. Each trip entry consists of a starting mileage and time, an ending mileage and time, and a list of who you met, where you met them, and why. You may either enter a name manually or select someone from your AddressBook database. Similarly, you may predefine certain locations and reasons as well as enter them manually within a record. Records can be duplicated if you make the same trip multiple times. Each trip can be categorized and multiple vehicles are supported. Trip is available in English and German. It is shareware and costs $19.95. AutoMobil by LinkeSoft also tracks the mileage of up to three cars. It prompts you to name each car, choose the currency type, and the units for gas amount or distance the first time you use it. You are also asked to set the odometer to the current value of each car the first time you make an entry for that car. Each time you get gas, set the odometer to the current value, enter the amount of gas obtained, and the amount you paid for it. You can also set AutoMobil to remind you to change the oil or have routine maintenance done either on a certain day or at a certain mileage. AutoMobil will track the mileage you get, the distance you travelled in the last month, the distance you travelled in the past year, the total cost of operating the automobile in the past month, and the total costs for the life of the car. You can include the cost of insurance payments and repair costs in the total costs calculated by entering an amount and specifying what type of payment it is. Go To Page: 1 2
