Do I Know You?Everyone uses their Palm to meet different needs. But first and foremost the Palm was designed to be a personal organizer, replacing all of those address books and paper daytimers we used to lug around. With that in mind, I am evaluating address books this week. If the built-in address book doesn't quite meet your needs, one of these three programs that use the built-in address database may be for you: Address+ by Paul Taylor provides four bi-level sorting options, allows you to duplicate an entry, and allows you to perform group operations on a subset of the entries in your address book. Address+ allows you to sort by (last name, first name), (first name, last name), (company, last name), or (company, first name). The last two options are particularly nice if you have multiple contacts within the same company or organization. By default Address+ sorts when it is launched but you can turn autosort off. You can duplicate everything in an entry except the name by tapping the Duplicate button in any entry. This is very useful when adding multiple contacts from the same company or organization. You can also set a global option to duplicate the entry in its entirety. You can manipulate multiple addresses at once using the Group Edit view. Address+ allows you to select or deselect all entries at once, all entries in a specific category at once, or invert the selections within a category as well as individually selecting specific entries from one or more categories. You can delete, change the phone number to a single common number, move categories, or toggle private/public status of all selected entries. Address+ 0.6 was just released as freeware. AddressPro by Jacob Zinger also adds improved sorting and entry duplication capabilities to the built-in address functionality. In addition, it provides a quick jump bar at the bottom of the screen that will move you to entries that start with the letter you tap. AddressPro supports bi-level sorting and lets you choose any field for the primary and secondary sort fields. It does not autosort when launched, but does provide an option to autosort after hotsync. AddressPro offers three entry duplication options. You can duplicate the entire entry, duplicate everything but the name and title, or duplicate only company information. AddressPro is shareware and costs $19.95. Super Names by StandAlone, Inc. provides four bi-level sorting options, allows you to duplicate an entry, provides some entry cross-linking abilities, and allows you to perform minimal group operations on a subset of the entries in your address book. It also provides a highly configurable interface with additional features such as tabs to the built-in categories for quick access and a quick jump bar that will move you to entries that start with the letter you tap.
