In Chapter 6 "For the Love of Life," Wilson discusses his ideas of biophilia, the love of the natural as inherited from our ancestors, and biophobia, the fear of certain aspects of nature (such as snakes and spiders) also inherited from our ancestors. In Chaper 7 "The Solution," he discusses current efforts to preserve the environment and actions that he believes must also be taken.

I enjoyed reading The Future of Life, although at times I found Wilson's prose to be a little too flowery. He writes beautiful descriptions of animals and their habitats, but at times the descriptions are a little too "over the top." Wilson also provides plenty of interesting examples and useful statistics, however, I felt at times that he was "preaching to the choir." The readers of The Future of Life will be environmentalists who are already interested in preserving species, cleaning up the environment, and decreasing the human "footprint" on the Earth and do not need to be convinced that these actions are important. I do recommend The Future of Life to anyone who is concerned about nature and the environment. It is beautifully written and extremely informative.
