Baron Franz Nopcsa (1877-1933)Faced with failing health and finances which had never recovered from the war, and also the fact that he was openly homosexual at a time in which this was unacceptable, Nopcsa became increasingly despondent. In April 1933, after killing his secretary and companion, an Albanian named Bajazid, Nopcsa shot himself. Although this unorthodox figure made some people uncomfortable with his flamboyant lifestyle, he made many important contributions to the science of paleontology, and was definitely ahead of his time with his theories on paleobiology.
