If one talks about the introducers of this mode of music in Pakistan than three names can never be missed and those are of Muhammad Ali Sheikhi, Zohaib Hasan and Nazia Hasan.
These are the people who were the first to take the charge; they introduced pop music in Pakistan, which was totally new to Pakistani music lovers at that time. The best thing they did for the pop music was that, they gave hit songs when no one knew at all what pop music is. Here I would specially like to appreciate the work of Muhammad Ali Sheikhi for he was the very first person that sung pop songs for Pakistani movies.
Than in 89 and 90 came bands like Vital signs and Jupiters who took pop music to new dimensions. Vital signs`s debut song ` Dil dil Pakistan `, a patriotic song not only took this band to the heights of fame in Pakistan but also played a major role in convincing people to go towards pop music, in the same period came a song from the Jupiters that is Dosti (friendship), which was also a super hit, and these were the two songs which literally made pop music a important part of Pakistani music.
Vital signs proved to be a ever green band and continuously gave hit songs like Sanwali salooni and Guzry zamanay, this band really helped a lot in flourishing the pop culture in Pakistan. At the same time a very important member of this band, Salman ahmad and the vocalist of Jupiters, Ali azmat left their respective bands and together with Brian decided to make a rock band of their own at a time in Pakistan when people did not know at all what rock music is actually all about. Junoon gave hit songs like Zehny Ghulami and Neeli neeli aankhy.
Ali Haider a solo singer from cultural center of Pakistan that is Karachi also gave hit songs like Purani jeans. These were all the songs which were exactly according to the needs of young generation and they slowly slowly began to like pop.
