History of this city is very rich, Lahore reached it `s full glory during the period in which the Mughal ruled Sub-continent.in fact Lahore was the favourite city of Mughal emperors. The most famous of these Mughal emperors are Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jaha and Aurangzeb, almost all of these emperors did a remarkable architectural work in the city, examples of which are still easily seen. One finds a lot of monuments, mosques and other historical places in the city.
Since independence in 1947, Lahore has prospered rapidly, in fact it is the second largest city of Pakistan after Karachi. Karachi stands first when one talks about industry and Lahore stands first when one is talking about culture.
Most of the cultural activities find their roots in this historic city of Punjab. Lahore has got the richest culture when compared with other parts of the country, the reason is that it has been under light from a very long period. Before the time when Mughal came up as the rulers of this region, Lahore was the favourite for the rulers of this region this all makes Lahore a very important and historic city. So Lahore's culture has been continuously flourishing and now it has got the shape of a very rich culture.
People of this city are courteous and well mannered. Usually you will find tall and strong men mostly having moustache and beautiful women with some of them veiled according to the custom of Islam. People are very conscious about their clothes and looks. That is why one finds well-dressed people while visiting this city.
This city has produced very talented and famous personalities. Most of the TV and film stars belong to this city, the ex - prime minister of Pakistan Nawaz sharif was also a native of this city. Lahore is also famous for it`s wrestlers. It is a custom of Punjabi people to take part in wrestling.
As described earlier Lahore has got a lot of monuments and buildings. Badshahi mosque is one of them, the mosque is really a masterpiece of architecture and shows the class and taste of Mughal architecture. It was built by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Shalimar bagh (garden) is another example of Mughal architecture. It is a very beautiful garden and can no doubt be counted as one the most excellent piece of architecture of history. Any one visiting Lahore would not miss a trip to both these places.
