Sindhi is one of the most ancient languages of this region. Though Sanskrit, Greek and Turkish have left a lot of impact on this language however the languages which have left the most impact on this language are Arabic & Sindhi.
Persian is spoken mostly in Iran and Afghanistan, borders of both these countries merge with the countries belonging to the subcontinent. That is why Persian has left a lasting effect on Sindhi. Till early 1970 Persian was a very well known language in Pakistan. In school and colleges it was taught as a subject. That is why it has left marks on Urdu as well as Sindhi. Muhammad Bin Qasim, the first Muslim conqueror, entered this region from Sindh. The language spoken by his army was Arabic. In this way some Arabic words merged into Sindhi enhancing its literature. Before the arrival of Islam in Sindh, Sindhi wasn't a very famous language but Muslims gave it special privilege. In fact Sindhi was the only language in that period from this region in which Holy Quran was translated by Muslim scholars. And due to Muslims Sindh prospered a lot continuously During the British colonial rule too, this language advanced a lot. Within that time political and social values changed very briskly of sub-continent and one of the best things that happened in that period was that Sindhi literature prospered. Shah Abdul Latif Bhatai and Sachal Sarmast are two very well known poets of this language. They added new dimensions to the language. Shah Abdul Latif Bhatai gave every thing to Sindhi poetry and showed full commitment to his mother tongue. His work was mostly based on the miserable condition of people. He took the basic idea of his poetry from the local Sindhi stories. Sachal Sarmast is very famous poet of Sindhi but his work was different from what Shah Abdul Latif Bhatai. He was basically a mystic poet. After Pakistan got freedom Sindhi language prospered and flourished because people of Pakistan as well as government take it as an important part of their culture. Sindhi is not only spoken in Sindh but is also used as a medium of communication in Indian province of Rajasthan thus connecting the people of both areas. Now Sindhi is considered a very prominent language of the country and the government of Pakistan is doing a lot got the language and for this purpose the government has made a Sindhi literature board along with making it a compulsory subject till primary in Sindh.
