The decapitated head has featured in a number of Sadequain's work. The martyrdom through decapitation was a subject close to Sadequain's heart. It is said that the artist's greatest fantasy was to be the Sarmad of Lahore, who was executed for his heretical interpretation of the Faith, and Mansur Hallaj of Baghdad, who was beheaded for his declaration that he was Truth. These victims of orthodoxy provided Sadequain with the powerful image of the headless man. Besides his distinct figures Sadequain is as well known for his dramatic calligraphy. In the mid '70s' he started on the visual interpretation of Iqbal's poetry and the imagery and calligraphy was meant to reproduce the dynamism of Iqbal's verses. All of Sadequain's work at this exhibition is displayed on brightly coloured 'walls' of aqua, purple, orange. The curator of the exhibition Salima Hashmi states the reason to be that A typical Sadequain hangs badlyon a white wall, often having a dull ing effect on his work, so we decided on these outrageous hues'. The organisation and display of his work are such that make the viewing easily digestible and visual delight.
