But those days are long gone and now he is hailed as a celebrity chef. "I am what you would call the godfather of British cuisine," he said. "You could say I've had a little experience." Hardly the truth, Mr Floyd is a veteran chef who had been cooking for forty years, has 19 television series to his name and is the author of about 15 best-selling cook books. He is watched in 30 countries around the world and at any given moment there is always someone watching him cook. He was one of the first professional chefs to make it onto the small screen. His first series, 'Floyd on Fish' aired in 1984 after he had already spent 20 years in restaurant kitchens. He has two children from a previous marriage, Poppy, his daughter works as an architect and his son Patrick is a social worker.

Mr Floyd was invited to Pakistan by Mehmood Akbar, the owner of Salt and Pepper and Village restaurants and Hamid Ali Khan, owner of Club Havanna.
