Winter, time to drink porters and stouts. If you've read some of my other articles you know I'm a seasonal drinker, heavier beers in cool weather and pilsners in the summer. But, I'm also flexible and I want a good pilsner to use with the Ale Marinated Shrimp we're going to grill. So for my beer of the moment let's try a Brooklyn Pilsner made by the Brooklyn Brewery
.
This golden colored lager begins with an impressive, crisp, hoppy aroma. Light to medium in body the beer starts out somewhat creamy, then the hops kick in with a pleasurable bitterness that will not scare away the "newbies" or disappoint die hard hop heads. The tartness of the hops is balanced very well with the sweet malt character of the beer. The flavor profile is held together with a lively carbonation that makes for a refreshing quaff. The Brewery touts it as a beer brewed in the style favored by pre-prohibition era brewers. Not being around during the pre-prohibition era I can't really vouch for that testimonial. I will say however, that this is a very good brew that deserves a place on your favorites list. As a pilsner this beer will go well with a variety of foods including seafood, pasta, BBQ and spicy dishes.
Ale Marinated Shrimp
1. Shell and clean the shrimp, rinse in ice cold water and pat dry. Mix together olive oil, beer, lime juice, garlic, herbs, and pepper sauce. Put shrimp in a large sealable, plastic bag, add the marinade and seal and shake to coat completely. Marinate in refrigerator 2-4 hours. A Call for Recipes I'm looking for some "Lite" recipes that will go with some of your favorite beers. In the interest of reducing calorie intake without sacrificing the benefits of good brews we have to start with the food. Email me anything you would like me to add to an article or would like me to find.
