One of the things that makes the difference in the overall success of a ritual is the place in which you choose to do it. This article will discuss some factors you need to consider when choosing a place. As with all my articles, this is based on my own personal experience. If you choose to share your experiences on this topic, please feel free to start a discussion on this topic or any topic you are interested it.
For starters, you probably need to have an idea of what your ritual is for. Then as you consider the nature of your intentions, you have to decide who will be welcome to attend or observe and who not. One thing to consider is whether or not minors are welcome and how they will be accommodated if so (e.g., do they need parental approval to attend, who keeps them out of trouble, will there be alcohol served at any time? As you consider the activities included in your ritual, you can then determine what sort of accommodations will be needed. If you are doing a ritual during which there will be a spiral dance, you already know you need an area large enough to allow a group of people to run around in circles (hee hee). If you will be having a bon fire you need to consider a place with an outdoor location and no fire restrictions or with a fireplace located in the appropriate place for your needs. If some aspects of your ritual are sensitive in nature or require privacy, you need to consider how limited the access to the area needs to be. Do you want the neighbors to have a "catbird" seat? If not, then, perhaps an indoor location is preferred. Will there be food served? Is the area you are considering easily accessible to the physically challenged? Restroom facilities are another important consideration. Weather also affects whether you want to be indoors or out of doors. When determining whether to look for an outdoor location or an indoor location, you then have to consider the length of time it will take from beginning to end, what you will be doing before and after ritual, and whether or not accommodations are needed for guests leaving the next day. If you're gonna do food afterward, be sure you select a place that permits the consumption of food. It's really anticlimactic to have to leave the ritual site to go to another site to eat.
