So you're going to see the judge. What else can you do? Be sure to get it all on record. A court reporter needs to be present and everything should be turned into a transcript. Insist on it. If you suspect that a judge has a personal bias and is not going to be sympathetic, discuss it with your lawyer. He/she may decide to ask for a change of judge. Be prepared to answer some tough questions. Have I mentioned that already? If the court wants to hear all the nitty gritty details about your religion and how it affects the kids, they are going to hear it. Be ready to deal with stereotypes, prejudice, snide remarks, and so forth.

Becoming involved in a legal matter is a huge decision that could have far-reaching effects and will have a significant impact on your life. Other than money, the possible loss of child custody, and the daily stress, there is also the possibility of publicity. We are all the rave these days and cases involving Wiccans, Druids, Asatru, and other Pagans are attracting more and more media attention. It may have positive effects, but it could also backfire.

From custody battles to employment cases, Eilers says that Pagans have been successful in a lot of places, but it takes tremendous courage and resolve to make a stand and fight for your rights and what you believe in. Ask yourself, is it worth it? Do I have any other choices?

On the other hand, these are your children. Do not give up or assume the worst. Refuse to be bullied. A good parent is a good parent and if you've done your job right, the courts will notice and you will be successful.
