Ideas for Emotional Healing

With the tragic events that unfolded so graphically a few weeks ago, now is a really good time to teach our children the implications of "an ye harm none, do as ye will", and discuss the law of karmic retribution. I am well aware that not all pagan homeschoolers are Wiccan, so I hope those who are not bear with me.

I am sure that just like other children around the world who saw the atrocities, yours are affected by it on one level or another. It has had far reaching implications to children in the heretofore seemingly safe western world. Many are left wondering why it was allowed to happen, and thinking it unfair that some people will never be punished for it and similar acts in their lifetime. Your children may not be showing the effects outwardly, but it is being discovered around the world that those images did indeed have a deep impact on the children who saw them. They just may need your help to verbalise their fears and sorrow, and to reconcile their emotions back into stability.

How could it happen? Discuss the free will we all have been granted, and reassure your children that with the karmic laws, no unjust act goes unpunished. It seems a cold comfort, but at least it brings a semblance of some sort of order back to a suddenly frightening chaotic world for those childish eyes.

The days to come loom ever before us, and none of us know where it will end. The spectre of war is imminent and now we are bombarded with the images of innocent Afghans fleeing their already ruined homes in terror,; their children's faces fearful and perhaps as the commentators remind us, soon to be stilled in death from starvation as the aid has already abandoned them. Let your children understand that we do hate Afghans or Muslims, we just rail against the unjust. Let them know that it is always the innocent who suffer the most in these affairs, but that the world is determined this time to try to ease the suffering of those caught in the crossfire. Help your children feel they are doing something. Let them know that the goddess is still listening. Make time for them to go and meditate in communion with their chosen deity, preferably in their garden if they created one in the earlier activity. Help them light candles for peace and pray that the small light of the candle will blaze into true light for the world in these dark days. Be sure to observe candle safety in regards to the placement of the candles and the use of the matches. Perhaps it would be a good thing to make up an offering basket as well.
