What good is it to shine a light on the monster in the corner? Sure sometimes you find out that it was just a shadow of the coat rack but sometimes it’s a monster no one knows how to get rid of. Does knowing about the monster slow it down? Of course, not all it does is give confirmation to our own fears. Ever heard someone say, if I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then? Or, I would have rather they had never told me the truth and left me in the dark than giving me this to deal with? Those things are just the beginning of showing the negative side of too much truth, to much justice, to much light.

The most obvious way to show the effect of too much light in people’s lives is to look at certain scientific truths. First, looking directly at the sun will blind you and leave you in a world of darkness forever. Heck, just looking at a bright artificial light can blind you temporarily. So, what happens if you’re blinded by the light? You end up stumbling around in the dark. That of course, was the reason for having all the light to begin with. But, suddenly you find yourself caught in a world of darkness all because you leaned too much on the light and didn’t think that some things should still be left in the shadows. Another example of light being used for negative purposes is the old trick of leaving a prisoner in a room with bright lights on 24/7 they eventually will begin to hallucinate and after a while either kill themselves or will themselves to die because they cant physically withstand all that light anymore.

On a more spiritual/human basis, there are all those things that happen in the world. Child abuse for instance. It seems so much more predominant today than ever before. Why, is it really happening more? Or is it that we have decided to shine a light on it and let the world know that its been happening all along? Sure as the population grows the number of children, who are being abused is going to grow. But, is that percentage really any larger? Hypothetically speaking say there were more children abused this year than last year. Is that because there are more children in the world this year than last and percentage wise number of abused children to the number of children world wide is actually the same or is it that there are actually more children being abused? Were these children being abused last year and we just didn’t know it? More than likely... So, does that mean that Child abuse isn’t more predominant; the search for the abused is just more diligent? That is very possible as well. So ask yourself this is it a horrible thing? Yes it is. Now ask yourself this. How many of those people we refer to, as great humanitarians were abused children? Would they have been considered abused if the same standards were applied in their day? If you can say yes to even a few or even possibly to, a few of them then ask yourself this. Would they have been the great humanitarians they became if they hadn’t experienced the abuse or if we had saved them from the abuse? Of course, we cant say for sure that they would or wouldn’t. But, it lends a hand to the argument that balance is everything and we only can truly learn when we have experienced the rain of the soul and the pains of living. Sometimes too much light is a bad thing. Sometimes it’s a good thing. But, as always, the perspective of this is in the eye of the beholder.
