Ahh, the world of positive energy and its practitioners: To Dark Magick Practitioners they are White Lighters. To many pagans they can often be considered New Agers and among each other, they consider themselves warriors of light. So what’s with this negativity toward positive energy or the light that brings us the enlightenment that is so talked about in the pagan and new age communities? That all depends on the perspective you have about Light on its own. Do you believe in balance of light and dark or do you believe that Good will eventually triumph over evil? This article is designed to look at light energy from a pessimistic viewpoint, or at the very least by taking off the rose colored glasses and looking at it for truth. It might offend some, it might help others, and some will say I’m just preaching to the choir. Maybe I am doing all three. But, before we can use Positive energy for anything, we must first understand all its good points and all its bad points. The good points of positive energy are pretty well obvious. Even the most pessimistic of magical practitioners use positive energy in order to seal their magical work. It can be found in the words: “So Mote it be.” These words seal the work and put behind it the power of our belief in our own ability to change the universe through Magick. What’s more positive than that? But, positive energy does much more than that. Anyone who has ever had a session with a Reiki Master can tell you that the energy or light that comes through the Master into them to heal them is positive. We talk about the Light of the God and Goddess-- the Goddess light being silver or white and the God’s energy being Gold.

Often times on discussion groups across the web, you will find us trying to uplift each other. We are always reminding each other that negativity never got anyone anything they wanted. We must think positively. But, the question is what is it we learn through always being positive?

Have you ever met one of those people who are always so nice to everyone and just ooze positiveness and light? What was your reaction to them? Unless you are one of those people or your not being honest with yourself, you would have to say that at least once your reaction was, somebody just shoot me already. To a pessimist an optimist can be as bad as an early riser is to a night owl early in the morning. Shining a light on things has often been equated to forcing the bad things of this world to the surface so that everyone can see them and do something about it. But, the question is do we really do anything about it?
