Pagan Music and ChantingOut of all the tools Pagans use; my favorite has to be the Chant. By chanting a song or rhyme many times over and over you build what some refer to as a Cone of Power. This "cone" is a spiraling vibration that like the ripple in a pond affects everything around it. Have you ever pulled up next to a car and the driver is playing his music very loud with the base turned way up? If you have then you know that even several car lengths away you can still feel the power of the beat of the music. The vibration of the rhythm is far reaching. Magick and Music work hand and hand on this same principle. Weather it be drumming, chanting or both giving our voices in raised song brings about great change and inner peace. Chants like we all Come from the Goddess, remind us of where we came and to what we will return in a calm peaceful manner that if chanted enough can leave you in a deep state of meditation. When you include music in your ritual you bring something to it that goes way beyond the mere actions we mortals can make. It is believed that music is a gift from the Gods. When we sing or chant to them we are returning that gift back to them. There are many types of Pagan music and chanting these days. I have spent most of my nights since 9/11/2003 outside Singing the song Freedom By Spiral Rhythm. If you like the sound of Evanescence then Alchemy V and Alchemy VII would be wonderful groups to check out. (Though I do believe they are the same group.) There are so many others that can bring a joy to your step, peace to your heart, or even a serious mood that reminds us of the things in life we need to be concerned or prepared for. Jethro Tull is also one that people fall back on many times. There use to be a wonderful Website full of the lyrics from Pagan music. It closed down due to copywrite issues. But, there are still some great sites out there. One of my favorites to find the words for Chants is the Pagan Chant of the Month This is a wonderful site. Check out their archive for more chants. They also include downloads so you can hear the chants though the downloads are not always of the best quality.
