Skin-The Wonderwrap-8

http://imiloa.wcc.hawaii.edu/krupp/BIOL1...

Very high temperatures (above 50 degrees Celcius) or very low temperatures ( below 7 degrees Celcius ) are perceived as pain. A rather peculiar fact is the brain itself is insensitive to pain. If some one literally picks the brain tissue of another person the patient ( victim) may only feel a tingling sensation and not pain.

All pain receptors are free nerve endings. They are in high concentration in skin, outer covering of the bones, in the walls of the arteries, at the surfaces of joints etc. Pain nags us into actions like going to a doctor and timely medical help protects our bodies.

Itching was earlier thought to be pain at a very mild level. Now it is considered as a distinct sensation but we yet do not know which receptors are responsible for this sensation.
