Skin-The Wonderwrap-4

The most common type of acne is acne vulgaris. Acne is related both to genetic predisposition and to the increased hormonal activity that occurs at puberty.

We can hardly do anything about the genes we inherit from our parents. But we can certainly reduce exposure to external oils and grease (e.g., oil-based cosmetics or hair products, occupational use of cooking oils). Washing the skin about 3 times a day can remove surface oils and can prevent acne from spreading. There is no need to use any special soaps. Ordinary toilet soaps will be fine. Continue to wash even when your acne is cured. Do not wash with harsh soaps or rub with coarse cloth or brushes.Wish to know more about acne? Treatment of resistant cases of acne should be entrusted to qualified doctors. Some drugs like, isotretinoin (Accutane), are known to decrease sebaceous secretions. But Isotretinoin is a well-established teratogen. Teratogen is a substance which causes birth defects and hence is not given to women who are pregnant.

Ceruminous glands are found only in external ear canal, a tube about one inch in length. These are simple, coiled, tubular glands with ducts leading to skin surface The secretion of cerumeinous glands combines with sebum and dead epithelial cells to form cerumen (ear wax). The ear wax is brownish, semisolid mixture of fats and waxes.

The opening of ear canal to the environment shows a few short crisp hairs. Along with the bitter testing cerumen they help in preventing the entrance of dust or tiny particles and small insects. Had the earwax not been produced perhaps, insects would have laid their eggs in the warm, soft, dark tunnel of our ear canals. Wish to take a look at ceruminous glands - click on to-
