At the initial stage of the development of cosmetic orthopedics we defined its main tasks as follows: treating the patients considering their socio-psychological factors and peculiarities at all stages; systematization and classification of all indications of cosmetic defects of extremities; employing the technique of minimum traumatism for surgical intervention and special devices for osteosynthesis that are most fitting for a specific case, and also devices and techniques that enable one to plan the end result, to determine the individual sufficiency of correction at different treatment stages and the optimal time for apparatus removal and the end of treatment.
Working on the improvement of the system of treatment prediction according to the initial characteristics of cosmetic defects, qualification of indications and contraindications for treatment, analysis of the results.
The method of correcting cosmetic defects of lower extremities is an integral system whose components are: the technique of surgical intervention conforming to the cosmetic requirements; a special osteosynthesis device; the system of determining the optimal earliest time of treatment completion, the sufficiency and symmetry of the correction of the cosmetic defect.
Dr.Yegorov was the first to develop the cosmetic classification of the shape of lower extremities which simplifies the understanding of diverse manifestations of cosmetic defects, and to work out prediction criteria of the expected treatment result.
Dr.Yegorov has considered the most important socio-psychological problems of the cosmetic correction of leg shape which are closely connected with the medical aspects of treatment, and we have also determined some rational ways to solve them.
