The present-day orthopaedy is the area of the medicine and technics which includes the most modern technologies and treatment methods of the wide range of orthopaedic diseases. The successful using of the modern orthopaedic techniques allows to prevent the genesis of the invalidization in the majority of injured patients and suffering from different orthopaedic pathologies. Last time it have become possible to use the wealth of experience for the treatment of the healthy people. This new stream of orthopaedy have got the name "orthopaedic cosmetology".
The orthopaedic cosmetology includes the anthropometrical cosmetology*, O- and X-legs form (bowlegs** and knock-knee***) feet deformities correction. The low height and curved, unshapely legs are very important psychological and social problems; thousands of people are suffered from them. Using the methods of the anthropometrical cosmetology it is possible to increase the height of any healthy person who eager to make it up 9 cm (around 3.5 inches). It also possible to improve the body proportions using special limb lengthening procedures. The wide using of the legs form correction operations allows to change the life of many patients, to brighten their psychical health. More over the correction operations and the following treatment are of cosmetic nature but besides have important prophylactic significance. The legs become straight and even as a result of the extremity axis correction and this facilitates the uniform load distribution on the glenoid surface of the knee joint. Besides this correction of the extremity axis prevents the development of degeneration in adult and old persons. The most convenient and safe tecnology which can be used in orthopaedic cosmetology is the method of professor Ilizarov. It is based on the principle of distraction osteogenesis. The methods meet the principles of cosmetic effect, that means they are low-traumatic and do not leave any external traces of intervention. The postoperative period is considerably shortened as compared with traditional ways of tackling such problems.
