The 2000th anniversary of the Nativity

seen a star in the East. And, like many of the latter-day Christians, the Holy Family was soon forced to emigrate to Egypt. The song of the angels was heard only by a few shepherds, and it was not loud enough for most people to hear over the singing of those carousing at the bar of the inn where there was no room for the Holy Family.

Now, as then, the message of peace is heard only by a few. Perhaps the muted celebration in the midst of war is closer to the spirit of the original event 2000 years ago. It can be ignored by most now as it was then, but still we sing:

Today the Virgin gives birth to the Transcendent one and the earth offers a cave to the Unapproachable One! Angels, with shepherds, glorify Him! The wise men journey with the star Since for our sake the eternal God was born as a little child.

Christ is born -- glorify Him!
