Where are we going?God, and asked how, in the face of all that, the monk could still believe in God. Could the monk give any evidence at all for the existence of God? And the monk replied with a question. "Do you know", he asked, "that there are many people speaking in this room right now? They are speaking with voices that you cannot hear, but nevertheless they are speaking in this room." At first Johannes was confused, and did not know what the monk was talking about, and the monk then made it clear that he was talking about radio broadcasts, and asked "Why do you not hear them?" And Johannes replied that he did not have a radio. And the monk said, "There are thousands of pictures of people in this room, but you cannot see them. Why can you not see them?" And Johannes said "Because I don't have an antenna." And the monk said, "Exactly, and without the right kind of antenna, you cannot see God. You demand evidence that God exists, but the problem of the evidence does not lie with God, but with you. You need to fix your antenna." Johannes went away and thought about this. And after a few months, he ceased to be an atheist and became a Christian. He had installed the right antenna, and tuned it so that he could hear God. Or, as we say in theological language, he converted, that is to say, he turned around and changed direction. Before he had been travelling away from God, and now he was travelling towards God. And if you were to ask Johannes about this, that is what he would say. If you asked him, "Where are you going?" his answer would be that once he had been going away from God, but now he was heading towards God. The question "Where are you going?" is very different from the question "How are you going?" The question "Where are you going?" has to do with the direction in which you are travelling. It does not deal with how fast you are going or how easily you are travelling. A person may travel from Durres to Tirana, and the person may set our on foot, or riding on a donkey, and if you ask the person "Where are you going?" they could say they are going to Tirana, even if they are not close to Tirana, and it may
