Grab Some Corner Space For That Hobby

In January I went back to working on some of the creative outlets I've enjoyed in the past but had set them aside for a season. Now that I'm back, I realized more than ever the necessity to get my various outlets in some sort of order.

I immediately realized I couldn't keep my sewing machine up and on the kitchen table forever with my cutting board covering my breakfast bar. I don't do much cooking so the fact that we had no place to sit and eat wasn't the issue. I just couldn't stand looking at the mess everyday. I'm blessed to have a room of my own as does my husband. We both have different interests and can slip into our own space when we need to. Mine is set up with a great office and I used it for studying when I was in school. This room has a door and when things do get out of hand, which they do, I can just shut the door.

I thought long and hard about combining my office with my quilting and other outlets .... and blend it I did. Awhile back I'd bought a nice used table which sits along side of my desk that I did my studying on. That's now my sewing table. I still have books on the table but they are on a simple desktop shelf, against the wall and out of my way. I've taken baskets to toss in all those little things I use as I work to help keep the room orderly. I drug my ironing board from the laundry room to the newly arranged office/outlet room for ease while I'm sewing.

I realize that not everyone has the blessing of having a room of their own so how would you make your own space for such things? I'm a member of http://www.onelist.com where we share ideas about our hobbies and other interests. I was going to quote one of the fellow crafters but am on a different computer as I write this and don't have the quote available. Her idea was great. You can take a corner of a room and set up whatever you use with your craft and then hide it behind a trifold room divider. It hides the mess when you're not working on your projects yet is easily moved out of the way giving you all the room that you need when you are working. For us quilters, the trifold would be a great way to display those finished quilts.
