Can I Really Get Organized?

Anyone can be organized, but don't let people who live in a home that looks like a hospital setting intimidate you. You know them, they're the 'perfect people' that live down the block. The kids always look clean and neat, the car is spotless, if you are invited into their home (not often they are too busy cleaning something) you're scared to touch anything because it is so 'perfect'.

That is called 'compulsive behavior' and people that live this way are usually so busy taking care of their material possessions they don't have time for the niceties of community living, although you may find them on the council and school board or any other prestigeous organization. Not to say the people elected to office are all like that they are not but people that are compulsivly organized tend to gravitate to places that enhance their 'image'.

What is sometimes lacking in a home like this is the everyday give and take that most of us take for granted. Kids have been programed to be seen and not heard and heaven forbid that they get dirty or make a mess. That's not a fun way to grow up.

If you find yourself aquiring a lot of possessions and spending a lot of time cleaning and caring for them, its time to take a hard look at what is important to you.

I believe we have to keep a balance between our physical needs, our spiritual and our social needs. Balance is not always easily achived but we should work at it. I also believe that each person needs to be able to develop and work toward his/her life goals and have the support of the other members of the household as they do that.

I look back at the pioneers who had so little yet accomplished so much. No convenience stores, no electricity, no indoor plumbing, certainly no money. Personal self development was unheard of unless you were wealthy and could spend time on yourself. They had to make do, eke out and get over it.

Look around you, when you compare our mod cons to what these people had to put up with, we really have no excuse to bemoan our fate. No excuse to complain about how messy our place is because we don't have time to clean. There is time for everything, we just need to plan it out and perhaps start to realize we need to make choices and that we can't do it all.
