Have you always been the one in the family who gets everyone else organized? That's an indication that you might create a career for yourself as a Professional Organizer.
When I lost my job due to government downsizing, I was not ready to retire, actually it came as a bit of a shock! As I live in a small town, there were no other jobs that would pay me as much as I had been making in the Provincial Courts. I was entitled to unemployment insurance, but I ran out of local options very quickly, I was also not able to work for $10 an hour, which was what was the going rate for the motel housekeeping positions that were the only jobs available at that time. Somehow, I thought my skills would be wasted doing a job like that. I had actually done that when my children were small so I even had experience at motel cleaning and bookings etc. and it was still only going to be $10 an hour. So, I thought I would try to turn this upsetting turn of events into something positive. I had been freelance writing for over twenty years in my off hours and one of the recurring themes in my work was the topic of getting organized. I figured I would expand on my writing and develop a new freelance career that would flourish because now I could do it full time. Well for some reason writers don't get paid on a regular basis, I had been doing business consulting as well in my spare time and I also expanded on that, it is a lot of work and very rewarding but my first love writing about getting organized was still foremost in my mind. Well hey! I got organized, people liked my articles about getting organized, people I helped get organized were happy with the results, why not become a Professional Organizer? So I did. I have never regretted it. There is something very satisfying in helping others improve their surroundings. They get more confidence and a lot more time to do things that are meaningful. They don't have to continually feel they are falling behind, they can make plans and follow through. Go To Page: 1 2
