The Azienda Agricola Erbaluna - Vini Biologici and Agriturismo was established towards the end of the 1800's by Sisto Oberto, the grandfather of the present owner. It was handed down from father to son, as so many vineyards in Italy are. In the mid '80's, Severino and Andrea decided to renovate their farm and they opted for organic farming which enabled them to keep in close contact with the land. They also bought new vineyards which were converted to organic cultivation. They feel close to the region, to the land, to their heritage and garner a great sense of fulfillment from their work.

Severino and Andrea continue the family's work using organic farming methods. Powdered sulphur against oidium and copper-sulphte against mildew. When put on a leaf, the sulphur powder derivative kills fungus which harms the growth of the the grape - not bad for health - it is a good, natural way to kill unfriendly insects. They also use natural products such as medicinal plant extracts and propolis. Weed control is carried out by machines and by fertilizing with manure or seaweed products. In the cellar natural clarifying agents like bentonite, albumen, gelatine and fish glue and low doses of sulphurous anhydride (about 60 p.p.m.) are used - thus staying within the guidelines of the E.E.C. Standards. All the work is certified by the Associazione Italiana per l'Agricoltura Biologica whose technicians check the farm twice yearly to verify all standards are respected.

Some of the grapes produced on 9-10 hectares are Barbera, Nebbiolo and Dolcetto. The lovely wines include Barbera d'Alba, Barolo,Langhe Nebbiolo and Erbaluna Rosso - all organic, all simply wonderful.

Under the old farm house which is also now being used as a holiday farm, there is an ageing cellar which has been restructured. In this place bottles of Barolo wine dating back to the 1920's together with a collection of bottles preserved yearly since 1958 can be viewed. Together with a diploma awarding the Barolo wines for the years 1927, 1928, 1929 and 1930, the tradition and pursuit for quality by Erbaluna past, present and future meet.

The holiday farmstead ERBALUNA is situated among the Langa hills in the heart of the Barolo. With its serene and relaxing atmosphere, it is a great holiday place with all modern comforts. CASCINA ASCHERI is an old country house set amongs the vineyards in Frazione Rivalta near La Morra and is ideal for families.

Winemaking and holidaying in the beautiful countryside of Italy, what could be better!
