Many weeds are edible and provide greens. Discover which ones are edible in your local area. Many plants will grow from discarded fruit and vegetable seed in scraps in the compost heap.

Companion planting combines plants which will grow and produce well together. Marigolds will deter nematodes as an example. Some plants do not grow well together. Pungent herbs will discourage harmful insects. More research is needed to verify some plant combinations, but many are proving successful.
