Last Minute Gardening Gifts-2003

For those of you that are in my dilemna, which is to say that you have not even started your Christmas shopping, this is going to be a stressfull month. Running around, trying to pick out just the right gift, waiting in lines, wrapping and hoping that it is something that they need and want. Well, if you have any gardeners on your list, I have some help for you. Welcome to my first annual last minute gardening gift guide.

I would like to give you frazzled last minute Christmas shoppers out there some help. So to that effect I have some suggestions on what to get the gardener on your list.

On the top of my list are good quality knee pads, or better yet a knee rest. This is really essential, especially if the gardener on your list has joint problems. Gardener's Supply Company - http://www.gardeners.com/- has quite a few good options from kneelers with long handles on the side to help you up to good quality pads that you can through underneath you as you move through your garden.

Next on my list would be a good set of garden tools, which include a good small hand spade, a cultivator and a good rake. You can find a variety of small hand tools on sites from http://www.fiskars.com/ - and http://www.oxo.com/ to Peaceful Valley Farm Supply - http://www.groworganic.com/a/item_GDS250... - which has a really good looking rake.

Going on down the list of garden essentials let's see ... a good ball of help twine to tie up the tomatoes to your stakes, a good all-weather pen and garden labels to label your seeds as you plant them. Also, a nice garden had to keep the sun out of your eyes when you are out weeding or tending your garden. These can all be found at a good local garden center. They should also have some good soaker hoses that your gardener friend will need to keep their garden surviving through all the dry months.

Oh, and I almost forgot the most essential piece of equipment, in my view. You will definately need a good quality basket to carry back all the products of your labor. It should be a good size and sturdy enough to carry back melons, as well as being versatile enough to gather herbs and the bushels of tomatoes and peppers that you are certain to expect this coming season. Some good varieties can be had with some good quality wicker baskets, but for some more robust baskets you can find a good wire basket on the Shepherd Seeds - http://www.whiteflowerfarm.com/7347-prod... They also have a good variety of the tools I mentioned previously as well as some other good choices.
