Maybe their bluntness is what saved me as my anger took over and I began this fight for my life. Unfortunately, I feel like it was this same kind of "full disclosure" that sealed the fate of my three moms. They grew up in an era of doctos being all-knowing and whatever the doctor said was right. Their doctors told them that they were going to die, and in the last few years, they all obliged them. I can't help but think that they would have lived longer or more enthusiastically if someone in their health care team had given them some hope as well as a death sentence.
Nevertheless, I wish Katie good luck, and my heartiest congratulations for winning this impressive honor. She will be an incredible ambassador representing Oregon, the United States, and the Miss America program.
