Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden SE 28th, one block north of Woodstock Portland, OR 97202 503-771-8386 Admission Charge: Free to all from Labor Day through February (Children under 12 and Members are free all year). $3 charged 10:00am - 6:00pm, Thursday - Monday, March - Labor Day. Terrie Murray Contributing Editor for Backyard Birdwatching Almanac at Suite101 highly recommends this garden saying, "I'm within walking distance of the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens, so I go there regularly to see what's blooming and to birdwatch." Rhodies are in season in spring, so plan to visit in early April for the best view of these dazzlers. The Oregon Garden Summer Hours: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Daily P.O. Box 155 Silverton, Oregon, 97381 1-877-ORGARDEN (1-877-674-2733) I've always enjoyed Silverton for it's Silver Creek Falls State Park with it's beautiful hiking trai; and waterfalls. Now there's a new reason to visit Silverton. The Oregon Garden will be under construction for a while, and in the meantime enjoy what has been completed. They state that their Mission Statement is: "The Oregon Garden will be a botanically challenging, world-class facility which will showcase the wealth and diversity of plant material in a visually compelling manner. It will be a landscaped approach to plant display, resulting in a garden that is a skillfully arranged environmental laboratory for education, research and public enjoyment." It looks like this garden will truly be a showpiece. Peterson Rock Garden 10 miles N of Bend, off Highway 97 Open daily 8am -dusk $1.50 Adults $.50 ages 6-16 Okay, I admit this isn't a flower garden. Going to Peterson's Rock Garden is one of my favorite childhood memories. Mr. Peterson's hobby of creating castles and bridges out of rocks (especially shiny obsidian) became an obsession with him. Although they don't have their own website, a couple of folks have web pages with pictures of the rock garden. Take a look at Craig Thom's pictures as well as this page by Debra Seltzer, to get a feel for the place and then go see for yourself. It's very enchanting. Shore Acres State Park Botanical Garden 13030 Cape Arago Hwy P.O. Box 1172, Coos Bay, OR 97420 541-888-3732 Admission: $3 daily day-use fee or buy a $25 annual permit for access to all state park
