This is the seventh in a series of monthly articles featuring the Contributing Editors on Suite101.com who hale from the Beaver State, Oregon.
Donna Satterlee has been the Contributing Editor for Emergency Preparedness since November of 2000. She writes to us from Northwest Oregon. She lives in and enjoys Tigard . Tigard is named after the Tigard family who settled in the area in the 1850's and is located in Washington County. Check out the Heirloom Garden Project happening at the John Tigard House Museum. Sue Barton: Donna, tell us about Tigard: What's your favorite restaurant, place to visit, thing to do? Donna Satterlee: I live in Tigard near Portland. My favorite restaurant? Now that is tough because I like so many. If I have to near it down I guess I'd have to say McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant because they always have a large selection of fresh seafood. Running a close second would be the Old Spaghetti Factory, it's been around for years. I went there as a young girl and now I take my daughter there. I enjoy going to Saturday Market downtown underneath the Burnside bridge. The Balloon Festival that is part of Rose Festival and is held at Cook Park in Tigard is another fun activity. I enjoy camping and hiking. Actually, I enjoy just being outdoors enjoying the beauty that surrounds me. SB: If you wanted to send somebody from out-of-state a gift that is the essence of Tigard, what would it be and why? DS: I think I would send them a bottle of Oregon wine and some smoked salmon. We have a number of local wineries such as Duck Pond, Oak Knoll and Sokol Blosser just to mention a few. The Willamette Valley offers ideal conditions to these wineries. And to go with the wine, some freshly smoked salmon. This area is known for salmon. We don't have to go far to fish for salmon since the Willamette river cuts into Portland and the Columbia river divides Oregon from Washington. SB: How did you get your start writing?
