Flery Manor is Marla and John Vidrinskas' bed and breakfast dream come
true. Their fantasy became reality when this location became available after
searching for years. They finished the building in the fashion best suited for
a bed and breakfast and decorated it to best show off their antiques. John
adorned many of the walls and ceilings with beautiful faux finishes, even
employing a trompe l'oile technique of painting clouds on the ceiling of the
two-story living room. The landscaping includes a beautiful gazebo, several
waterfalls and three ponds that have become the home of their black swan, Mr.
Vanderbilt.
All this sits on seven acres above the wild Rogue River in Grants Pass. Guests
are just minutes from
white
water rafting, the
Oregon Shakespeare
Festival in Ashland, the
Britt
Festivals in Jacksonville and an incredible animal rescue and
rehabilitation facility,
Wildlife
Images.
Flery Manor is on Jumpoff Joe Creek
Road, which is part of the historic
Applegate
Trail that pioneers followed to Oregon. Visitors to Flery Manor can find
more information on the Oregon Trail at the
Applegate Interpretive Center,
which was opened two years ago. Each September, they present a re-enactment of the
pioneer experience.
John and Marla appreciate the finer things in life and their guests are treated
to the same. There are always special touches like fresh flowers in the rooms
and homemade chocolate truffles. If you are celebrating a special occasion such
as an anniversary or honeymoon, make sure to let them know. Flery Manor will
make your stay even more memorable.
Marla brings her love of cooking and freshly grown herbs and vegetables from
her own garden to the Flery Manor three course breakfasts. She takes pride in
providing healthful, great tasting foods created with her original recipes and
shares three of them here with us.
These original recipes created by Marla, are favorites of the Flery Manor Bed and Breakfast.
EGG ON A CLOUD
If you are looking for that special breakfast recipe dish that will impress your guests but is easy to prepare, this elegant egg dish is for you! This is their version of an old classic. At the Flery Manor, they serve this dish with fresh poached salmon from the local Rogue River; that their guests may have caught themselves. Ingredients:
6 eggs carefully separated
6 toasted rounds, cut from your favorite bread
Your favorite Hollandaise sauce recipe
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Toast bread rounds and place on baking sheet. Whip eggs whites until stiff peaks form. Divide egg whites over rounds, and with the back of a spoon form a hollow in the center of each. Place yolk (the yellow part) in the hollow. Bake in oven, being careful not to over cook. Cook until yolk is set and white is lightly browned (about 15 minutes). Serve topped with Hollandaise sauce and a dash of paprika.
