Linda Suzane -- Interview with Contributing Editor from Oregon

Mar 27, 2001 - © Sue Barton

SB: If you wanted to send somebody from out-of-state a gift that is the essence of the Central Oregon Coast, what would it be and why?

LS: Right now, it would be one of the glass floats, because Lincoln City has become identified with them, but more because they are so beautiful and represent the wonderful artists that work and sell here on the coast. There are so many fine art galleries and several blown glass studios. If I was going to take up a hobby it would be blown glass. I love the rich colors, the flowing forms, the sense of fragility with strength.

SB: How did you get your start writing?

LS: I started writing after I got married as a way to exercise my creative imagination and not be accused of spending all my time day dreaming. Then I became addicted. I can't go very long without writing something.

SB: Do you write for traditional venues as well as online?

LS: In the past, I was a ghost writer to a real estate guru, worked on newsletters, and tried, mostly unsuccessfully, to break into the print. I wrote a Star Trek novel which was finally published by Marion McChensey as a fanzine. I had an article appear in Writer's Digest. I wrote a romantic mystery on spec for Harlequin, but they rejected it because my hero wasn't Harlequin enough. I tried to find an agent to market it, but gave up after 60 rejections. That is when I turned to e-publishing, and it was accepted within two weeks.

SB: Do you write for other online sites?

LS: My romantic mystery, The Murder Game, will be available from Kudlicka Publishing sometime in April. http://www.kudlicka.com. It is the story of Gwen Wilson, who is offered $10,000 to create a murder mystery game for Lawrence Van Hise's seventieth birthday, but the game goes murderously wrong and she finds herself framed for murder.

I have my own web site http://playmurder.terrashare.com. This site is devoted to murder mystery games. You can read a chapter from The Murder Game. You can also take part in creating an actual murder mystery game, Killers International.

I finished a mystery novel set on a fantasy world, The Eyes of Truth, and am looking for an e-publisher. I've started submitting stories and articles to
