Linda Suzane -- Interview with Contributing Editor from Oregon

© Sue Barton

This is the second in a series of monthly articles featuring the Contributing Editors on Suite101.com who hale from the Beaver State, Oregon.

Linda Suzane is the Contributing Editor for Vampire ebook Authors. She writes to us from the Central Oregon coast. Lincoln City and Newport are coastal towns in Lincoln County, with Newport being the county seat.

In order to introduce you to Linda, her topic and the Central Oregon coast, I asked her the questions I thought you would. Here then is our conversation:

Sue Barton: Linda, Tell us about the Newport/Lincoln City area: What's your favorite restaurant, place to shop, thing to do?

Linda Suzane: One of the interesting things about the coast is despite the huge fluctuations in population (tourists) this is a very small town, people know each other, especially the old timers, of which we aren't. We have only lived here about four years. We like the mild cool temperatures, the raging storms, the brilliant sunshine, and the ocean.

It is hard to decide what my favorite restaurant is because we have so many really, really excellent restaurants. More than any place I have ever lived. But interestingly there aren't many with ocean views. Kyllos next to D River in Lincoln City, has great food, but always busy and noisy, Surfrider Resort, Lincoln Beach, has probably the best view and good food, and Spouting Horn in Depoe Bay, the best homemade pies and a view of the world's smallest harbor.

We are homebodies, tending to think that a trip to Newport is a long journey. As for where do we shop? Lincoln City has lots of stores, not much shopping. Most of the stores are geared toward tourists. We do have the factory outlet mall, which is great for a wide selection, if you can find a parking place. My favorite stores are Crystal Wizard and Heart and Soul in Lincoln City. Both sell crystals, candles, New Age stuff. My favorite art gallery is Dancing Coyote in Depoe Bay. As for what to do, we don't gamble, my husband works for the casino and because of his job can't gamble and I just have plain bad luck. We occasionally go to some of the shows at the Casino. We don't shop much, but when we have friends visiting, I do enjoy browsing through the tourist shops and seeing all the pretties. We have an old time movie theater, the Bijou, a big modern one, and one small live theater. But of course the best thing about the coast is the beach, walking or just driving by. It is constantly changing and always beautiful.
