ABC's of Oregon

This list is by no means comprehensive, however it will continue to be a work in process as the State of Oregon continues to change and grow. I've assembled some of the more popular tidbits about our State. If you have a piece of trivia or link you wish to add, email me at Oregon Contributing Editor. One of my favorite kinds of trivia includes the State Rock, Beverage, and Seashell. These items make me wonder what the Oregon State Government is doing with all its time.

Agriculture
Agriculture is Oregon's leading industry with nearly 80% of the $3.4 billion production in 1997-98 being exported out of state.

Baker
One of 36 counties in the State of Oregon, the county seat is Baker City.

Beaver
The state animal is the American Beaver.

Benton
One of 36 counties in the State of Oregon, the county seat is Corvallis.


C

Chinook Salmon
The Chinook Salmon was named the State Fish in 1969.

Clackamas
One of 36 counties in the State of Oregon, the county seat is in Oregon City.

Clatsop
One of 36 counties in the State of Oregon, the county seat is in Astoria.

Columbia
One of 36 counties in the State of Oregon, the county seat is in St. Helens.

Coos
One of 36 counties in the State of Oregon, the county seat is in Coquille.

Crook
One of 36 counties in the State of Oregon, the county seat is in Prineville. The State's geographic center is 25 miles south-southeast of Prineville. Prineville is the home of Les Schwab, founder of Les Schwab Tires.

Curry
One of 36 counties in the State of Oregon, and home to Garden Design editor on Suite101.com, Kirk Johnson as well as Middle East Politics editor on Suite101.com, Rick Francona . The county seat is in Gold Beach.


D

Deschutes
One of 36 counties in the State of Oregon, and home to Parenting/Marriage Humor editor on Suite101.com, Linda Sharp. The county seat is Bend, where your Oregon editor grew up.

Douglas
One of 36 counties in the State of Oregon, the county seat is in Roseburg.

Douglas Fir
The Douglas Fir was designated the State Tree in 1939.

Electoral Votes
Oregon has seven electoral votes for presidential elections.
