A Taste of Oregon

The Holiday Season is the perfect time of year to send or receive a special taste treat from the great state of Oregon. I'd like to share some of my favorite online resources for ordering a superb selection of nibbles and sips. You can find links to all of these companies in the Links Section here in the Oregon topic on Suite 101.com. You can still order from many of them in order to receive gifts before the holidays. Tillamook Cheese The Tillamook County Creamery Association on Oregon's Coast began making cheese together in 1909. In recent years they expanded to include production of butter, yogurt and ice cream, and you can order from their fine selection of cheese online. Tillamook is the standard here in the West. Few kitchens are without a 2 lb. block of Tillamook cheddar. The special products from which you can order include: Extra Sharp Vintage White Cheddar, a country picnic basket full of treats, or packages with sausage or salmon. One of my favorites is the popular "Baby Loaf Twins" which you can specify to include any two of the following: Medium Cheddar, Sharp Cheddar, Extra Sharp Cheddar, Smoked Cheddar, Colby, Colby-Jack, Monterey Jack, or Jalapeno Jack. Tilly is the official Spokescow and I still remember my cousin getting a Tilly doll for Christmas when we were about ten years old. I was envious for years. Harry and David Think Harry and David and you get a picture of monthly fruit baskets filled with peak of the season fruits and vegetables. They began as the Bear Creek Orchard and in 1914 brothers Harry and David took over the operation from their father. Their flagship fruit is the Royal Riviera Pear, which is beautiful, huge and tastes fantastic. I order a variety of gifts from them year-round and am always pleased by their quality. My grandparents lived quite close to the orchards in Medford, Oregon and I remember how carefully they treat the trees throughout the growing year, almost living outside with the trees during the frosty times to ensure that no damage is done and the crop is saved for us to enjoy. Golden Orchards The Golden Orchards specialize in beautifully crafted preserves, jams and syrups made from their orchard fruit. Peaches and marionberries are the specialties. Marionberries are a raspberry and blackberry hybrid created in Marion County Oregon and their tangy sweet flavor can't be beat. Stash Tea As you drive through Central Oregon your nose will tell you even before you see
