A Touch of Hollywood

Hollywood Backlot
Visit Newport Beach in April (this year April 3-11) and you can take part in the Newport Beach Film Festival, which has grown into one of the major events in Southern California. The festival was founded by the city of Newport Beach along with sports agent Leigh Steinberg and his wife, Lucy.

` With travel and war concerns dominating the news, actors sometimes want to stay close to home when they work, too. And that means television crews are increasingly coming to Orange County to film. In your tours around the county, keep an eye out for crews from current hit TV series like "Robbery: Homicide Division," "Alias" or "CSI: Miami."

These are just a few of the famous sites and scenes that make Orange County "Hollywood South." No matter what Orange County city you're in, be sure to ask the locals to direct you to locations made famous by the stars! And if it's fictional 'stars' you like, Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride will open at Disneyland April 11. Playhouse Disney will open at California Adventure the same day-just before the Easter crowds arrive!

Sandi's Travel Tips

Southern California weather has been as erratic as the rest of the country of late, but history suggests that April is a great month to visit for sun, mild temperatures and fewer crowds. During May, beachside towns can experience coastal fog that can last into early afternoon in some spots, particularly those surrounded by hills.

So be sure to bring some cool weather clothes for cloudy days or evenings when temperatures can dip into the low 50s in spring!
