I have been struggling what to write after the tragedies on Tuesday. Of course, I knew that this article would not be a continuation of my series on coupons. So what can the author of an article on shopping add to what has already been said on the horendous events. I guess I have three directions to take this article and I hope they are all helpful and relate to why you have stopped today to read this article.

First, on a personal side. What I found in my own soul was a callousness that protected my being from being shaken. This deeply troubled me. Had I lost the sense of feeling? For a week now I have questioned this. Maybe you are in a similar situation. Today in my time of devotion and meditation I remembered an article I had read by William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army, many years ago. I dug around and finally found it. I re-read and realized this article was for today- our times and for me. It is called "A Vision of the Lost". I put it on a link and you can find it here: A Vision of the Lost. It struck a cord with me because of my own "do nothing" (or at least "give a little") attitude.

My second response is that of encouragement and warning. Give, but be careful to whom you give. I have already received suspicious emails of asking for funds, and you may have as well. Only give to reputable organizations. If you are giving through the Internet, be careful that you have the correct link web address.

There are also many good organizations out there to help transfer your funds to the place where you want to give. I would recommend going to your favorite charity first and seeing if they have a link to online donations first. For the Red Cross, go to: http://www.redcross.org/ and for the Salvation Army: http://www.salvationarmy.org/.

Another way of donating is to go through your local church or charity chapter. They will probably have an afiliate in New York or Washington, DC.

Another great way of giving is through retailers that give a portion of their profit to the local charity. One group, http://www.igive.com/html/intro.cfm is a wonderful shopping site because you can shop at your favorite online stores and pick which charity you would like a percentage of their profit to go to.
