Top of the Top, Places to Shop: I Love Lucy DVD (or Video)

I have a theory about the metamorphous of television. Two events happened simultaneously- the invention of the remote control & the decrease in quality TV. Coincidence- I think not. Before the widespread distribution of the remote, television shows were written for the purpose of developing characters, situations, and story lines. After the invention of the remote, the number one goal of the television producer was to "spellbound the audience with quick erratic imagery so they feel obligated to stay and not switch to another channel". Those 18 minutes of programming (30 minutes minus the 12 minutes of commercial time) must be like a quick fix to our entertainment psyche. Alas, this has led to shock TV, irregular camera angles that will make a person with motion sickness puke, and one liners that could have been funny if the story had time to develop.

I'm not saying that all television shows are trash. A couple nights ago Joyce and I watch Wallace and Gromit and had a wonderful time. After the three episodes had ended, I plopped in front of the computer with hopes of finding more of their material. I was shocked to find they only had the 3 episodes! But on my search I did find a number of video gems that I ended up with. Even though the days of I-Spy, Flip Wilson, Gracie and Allen, Bonanza may be unacceptable by today's TV's standards, you can relive those moments on video and DVD.

Below are my Top of the Top, Places to Shop for I Love Lucy DVD's and videos.

My #1 choice is the most innovative site since eBay Do you buy videos or DVDs? I don't. Usually I rent. How would you like to be able to rent unlimited about of DVD's for $20 a month with no late fees, no shipping, and no hassles? Sounds too good to be true? Well, here it is: Netflix . Currently, they are running an introductory offer of 2 weeks of DVD rentals for free.

#2- videos & DVDs at Half.com . These guys are in my top 5 for anything they sell, because this is where I do most of my shopping. I only have one problem with them- they lie. It's not as low as $9.99 for DVDs and videos- They have videos for less than a dollar in their Bargain Bin. And you will find hundreds of DVD's in the Bargain Bin for less than $7.99!
