Years of styles have changed and so has my interest in wearing ties. I now attend a church were jeans and shorts are the norm and my ties were hanging nicely in my closet. Recently I have had a yearning to dress up as I plan my work day (and not in my mother's high heel shoes). I decided to browse the internet to see what was new in tie fashion and I was pleasantly surprised at my findings.
As I mentioned ties are more just a peice of cloth that you were around your neck. They can make statements, whether bold or suttle. Ties are a very personal item, I believe. Sometimes I do believe it can be difficult to buy for someone else. This is due to the fact that you need to know what kind of message they may want to make. For example, I made the mistake a few years back of purchasing a particular tie for my Pop. There is no one who I am more proud of them my Pop. He is a WWII vet from the 9th Air Force. It was one year that I wanted to get him something that said, "Air Force". I found a tie with the fuselage of a B-17. I thought it looked great. I gave it to my Pop. I saw himthe following Sunday at church it was then that I realized that the tie may being saying more than Pop wanted. Everyone was staring at his tie, women looked horrified as they covered their children's eyes. I could tell that Pop was a little uneasy with the attention. You see this B-17 was well decorated as many planes were during those days. When I first bought the tie, the scantly clad picture of the pin-up girl was not very apparent to me, but it sure stood out during that Sunday Service. i haven't seen Pop wear that tie since.
