Without DVD's, You're Left Behind in Electronic Dust

Feb 12, 2001 - © Reginald Vickers

Last week, it became very obvious to me that I have been left behind in "electronic dust". Either that or other people have more money and time to waste than I. The conversation at work began talking about movies. I listened with great anticipation to jump in and share my opinion about my favorite flick, "The Princess Bride". Yet 12 seconds between the words "movie" and DVD, I was lost. This was no normal "adult" conversation filled with all the fluff of "What's your favorite movie?" or "Who's your favorite actor?" This became a hardcore analysis of DVDs and which disc offered the most intense special effects.

Patrick and Jeff discussed the ability to watch action scenes in slow motion, choose different endings, watch out-takes and documentaries on how the movie was made. All this on one disc! I was amazed. Their consensus was that "X-Men" was the best. Then their conversation turned to price. X-Men ran them about $30! OK, I admit that I'm a cheapskate. I felt like I spent too much for the only video I ever bought, "Pinky & The Brain's Christmas Special" for $9.95.

With that thought I decided it was my mission in life is to find the best prices on DVD's (OK, maybe not my mission but at least a good idea for an article for this week). Not for myself, mind you, but for the poor helpless DVD addicts of the world like Jeff and Patrick.
