Organize Your Life with A Calendar

If there were one word to describe this holiday it would be this: busy. Many things happened from Thanksgiving to New Years that made this one of the most hectic times of my live. Just after Thanksgiving I decided to add a second job to my portfolio, one of technical support for an ISP. I liked it so much, I decided to leave my (almost) 10 year position in social work and head in a completely opposite direction and career path this also meant a move in opposite direction for my pay scale- to the bottom). From the time I gave my notice, until the time I actually left my first career, I worked both jobs full time. A funny thing happens to one's body when he spends 18 hours a day working- it gets tired. On my last day of the employment marathon, a sniffle came upon me. Within 24 hours this sniffle turned into a sinus infection/cold/ with a touch of bronchitis. Now up to this point, it was my family that was making the greatest sacrifice, since I wasn't around. Joyce was looking very forward to my presence being more than just a lump in the bed that she would have to push out each morning. Now, in her presence, I was coughing, and hacking, and sneezing. For Christmas. On top of this unhealthy interior (which is currently going on for a record one month long cold), there was another skunk thrown into the pot- the subfreezing temperatures. This pattern of Arctic blast which has plagued the south much too long (you people in the north choose to live in the sub-below normal cold, I live in the south so I can enjoy 50 degree winters). And winter isn't even 2 weeks old! This weather means two things to the Vickers' family. 1) We're miserable because we can't get out and about. And 2) I have to be the chauffeur because I am the only one that has the ability to drive on ice (something about being from Michigan- I think it's an excuse). The sad thing is that I had caught myself time and again saying things like, "I'll be glad when Christmas is over", "It's too cold to go shopping", and "Santa Claus isn't coming this year. The elves went on strike." Yet despite the busyness, the sickness, the shortage of cash, and the rush shopping adventures, I found the wonderful Christmas spirit by a new appreciation for the time I do have that I am able to spend with family and friends. I realized that I take this way too much for granted.
