The Only Christmas Gift You'll Ever Need

If you come to this site 51 weeks out of the year, you will find the best information about shopping on the Internet. On this other week, I offer the best deal you will ever find- grace. Below you will find my annual Christmas wish to you.

Last night, I decided to head up to Wal-Mart and pick up some Christmas cards. I didn't want cards with Santa, snow scenes, or even "Happy Holidays" (Not that there is anything wrong with these). I was looking for a card that displayed the true meaning of Christmas; a card with the message of how God came to this earth, through the obedience of His Son, Christ Jesus, to offer His life so that we might have a relationship with God Himself by His grace. Even though Wal-Mart had hundreds of boxes of cards left there was not one "Christ"-mas cards to be found. I frantically searched through every bin. (Joyce reminded me that it could be because all the good cards are gone by December 24th!) All the cards said things like, "May your days be merry and bright", "From our house to yours", "Have you been naughty or nice", and "When you wish upon a star". Yet I am a trouper and didn't give up. I proceeded to CVS, Family Dollar, K-Mart, and even the grocery stores. Nothing! There were pictures of carolers, sleighs, elves, holly branches, Christmas trees, and even dogs and cats in Santa suites, but no manger scenes. This actually made me mad. How could they do this to Christmas, the birth of our Savior?

The next morning, I was awakened by a small voice that called my name, "Reggie". I had heard that voice before but it had been a while. "Spend time with me", the voice proceeded. I had been so busy during the past few months; with all the shopping, buying and wrapping presents, and the Christmas activities and get-togethers with families and friends. Not only had the stores left Christ out of Christmas but I had too. I had been too busy to spend time in a relationship with God through His Word and with Him in prayer.

Does all the commercialism of the holidays bother you? Does all the busy-ness of this season bring you stress? If you take away all the trimmings and presents do you still have the true meaning of Christmas? It is not the responsibility of the stores or the media to put Christ back into Christmas. It is up to you and it is up to me. It doesn't even start by finding the right card or getting the right present. It starts by taking time out for God, by spending time with Him.
