The Search for the Perfect Gadget!

Before I make any purchases on the Internet, I try to do as much research as possible. Therefore, the impulsive decisions that use to take me 4.3 seconds to make, may now take up to 37 hours of logged computer time. It is not that I make better decisions but I have more information to justify why I made the purchase. This was true of my most recent purchase- a radio controlled remote control.

Now before I explain my purchase, you must understand my living situation. We live way back in the sticks, on top of a mountain, overlooking other mountains. Being this far in the back woods we rely heavily on cable. (We could almost pick up the local station with the 300' antennae that towered over the house when we bought it.) I am a cheapskate and refuse to pay for more than one cable box. Since the control of our cable as well as our internet and telephone services) are all owned by one man (can you spell monopoly??), you have to own a box to pick up any stations. Therefore, I own what is called the multiplier hooked to our other eight TV's. What this does is send the single signal from the cable box in the living room to all the other TV's. The only setback is that if I am watching a TV in another room besides the one in the living room, I have to move to the living room to flip channels. Therefore, if I'm watching the TV in the bathroom, I have to stop whatever I'm doing, walk to the living room, and flip channels. As you can see, this has always been a hassle. That was, until now.

Joyce had recently read an article in Ladies Home Journals about Remote controls (I don't know what ladies know about remote controls?!!! Just kidding!!!) I cut this article out and hung it in the remote control shine that I have at my house. In it was listed a "radio control remote control" that you could use anywhere in the house to change channels or stations with one control. This meant that I could be watching our TV out in the garden gazebo and with one push of one button, I could switch channels on the cable receiver in the living room! This was one of the most amazing devices I had ever heard of. The price was only $532! As a full fledge cheapskate, I could not pay that price.
